There is 3 periods in hockey. The game is 60 minutes of playing time in 20 minutes intervals. In between the first and second period and between the end of the second and the third there are intermissions that last anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes. They give players time to rest and think, while toiling fans can grab between game munchies or discuss the game. If the score is tied at the end of the three periods the game will go into overtime (if league rules allow that).
