Hey folks — I’m hoping someone here has gone through something similar and can offer advice. A few weeks ago, I started getting nonstop calls and letters from Scranton Recovery about a debt I’m not sure is even valid. They claim I owe a few hundred dollars to some old credit card, but I never got proper documentation proving it’s mine.
They’re calling me 3-4 times a day, sometimes late at night. Once I told them to stop calling at work, but they just ignored that and kept at it. They’ve also left messages for my neighbors and mentioned “legal action” if I don’t pay soon. It’s stressing me out — I’m losing sleep over it.
So I’ve got a few questions:
Has Scranton Recovery tried this on anyone else?
What’s the best way to force them to validate the debt or prove it’s really mine?
Are there concrete laws or consumer protections (especially under FDCPA) that can stop this kind of debt collection harassment?
Has anyone filed a complaint or lawsuit and seen results?
I found this article about ending Scranton Recovery’s debt collection harassment and wanted to get real stories from people who’ve been through it.
If you’ve dealt with something like this, your tips or experience would really help me — and maybe help others who are stuck in this mess too.
