Hey folks,
I’ve been getting more into precision shooting lately and want to upgrade to a best long‑range rifle, but I’m kinda stuck on where to start. I’ve shot a few different setups at the range a buddy’s old .308 bolt‑action and a loaner in 6.5 Creedmoor — and the Creedmoor honestly felt smoother at distance. I’m leaning toward a bolt‑action for consistency, but I’m not ruling out semi‑autos if someone can point to a reliable platform.
Things I care about: predictable recoil, ammo availability (so I don’t break the bank), and something that isn’t a pain to maintain. I don’t need to hit extreme ranges every weekend, mostly 600–1000 yards, so I’m wondering if a popular round like 6.5 Creedmoor is overhyped or actually worth it.
Anyone here running a setup they love? What rifle and caliber gave you the best mix of accuracy and practicality without being ridiculously expensive to shoot? Any brand or model recs (or “don’t buys”) would be awesome.
